New York City has developed the largest publicly-owned, unfiltered water supply system in the world. Based on equal parts human ingenuity and the eco-system services of the Catskill Mountain forest, this system provides clean water to nine million downstate NY residents. Utilizing puppet theater’s elemental devices of enchantment, CITY THAT DRINKS THE MOUNTAIN SKY traces life’s quintessential liquid from those mountain tops to city taps. This production explores new challenges facing NYC’s water supply from major infrastructure repair and land-use practices to the unfolding effects of a changing climate.
