Dear Friends and Supporters
With creativity and social engagement as our credo, Arm-of-the-Sea makes a difference. Each year we partner with scores of arts presenters, community organizations and school groups to present our original thought-provoking productions. In the past 18 months we’ve presented one hundred twenty five performances and conducted over thirteen weeks of artist residency programs at schools and community centers. More than 25,000 people saw a performance or participated in one of our residency programs. And most of the performances were free!
Now, in this lengthening recession, many of the organizations and school groups that request our shows are finding it difficult to meet our normal fees. Furthermore, schools are making deep cuts to arts programming, with the prospect of young people having very limited exposure to living artists and live performances. To counter this, we are launching a campaign that would enable us to offer fee reductions to financially strapped organizations. The New York State Council on the Arts has provided a $7,400 grant toward this effort. We need to double that amount.

New Touring Production -To Fuel the Fire"
Arm-of-the-Sea announces "To Fuel the Fire", a new touring production available for performance this fall.
This tragic comedy features primordial masks and kinetic puppet figures, vivid paintings, whimsical props and live music in a free-wheeling allegory about the ecological costs of energy.
With the Universe as backdrop, the action leapfrogs through events in earth’s evolutionary history, from inventive one-celled microbes to modern hominid inventors. The story follows an Egyptian immigrant couple, Isis & Osiris, who run a Soup of the Day shop on the Gulf Coast. From their ancient rounds of planting, harvesting, cooking and composting Isis & Osiris feed generations of workers sent to gather fuel. Plays-within-the-Play depict the rise and fall of civilizations propelled by various fuels. As new cultures scour the earth to keep their fires burning, Isis & Osiris carry on within cycles of fertility and renewal. Suddenly, an oil rig explosion creates an ecological disaster, and the unlikely pair must summon all their rusty mythological powers to cheat death and revive the waters of life.
TO FUEL THE FIRE will appeal to audiences of many ages and walks of life. The production is approximately one hour in length and designed for indoor stages as well as outdoor festival settings. For elementary schools, we offer a companion show: Osiris Discovers the Universe.
